Anna McMichael is a violinist in demand as an experienced musician able to perform diverse styles of music. She joined Monash University in Melbourne as Head of Strings in 2019. Anna lived in Europe for 17 years and performed with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Royal Concertgebouw, and with ensembles including the ASKO Ensemble, Schønberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble and Ives Ensemble. She also played with the Netherlands Opera and with the London Sinfonietta, and in Germany with Ensemble Modern and MusikFabrik. Anna has toured many major European festivals and given premieres by leading international composers, such as Ferneyhough, Andriesson, Robert Ashley and Michel van der Aa.
She performs regularly with Australian groups including: Australian Haydn Ensemble, Pinchgut Opera, the Australian World Orchestra, Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra and Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and is a member of leading early music specialists, Ironwood. She performs at many festivals around Australia, with appearances recently at Mona Foma and Canberra International Festival of Music. Anna was Co-artistic Director of the Tyalgum Music Festival between 2014 and 2019.
