Ipoh-born saxophonist Shahrizal Kamal is a passionate and avid performer, having played in venues throughout Malaysia and abroad. He has played regularly for the Philharmonic Winds of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC) Symphonic Band, Northwestern University Symphonic Band (USA), Birdian Saxophone Quartet, Chicago-based Apricity Quartet, and East Meets West chamber music group. He has also made guest appearances with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and their Youth Orchestra, as well as the KLPAC Orchestra. As a laureate of the Malaysian Wind Music Prize, he is looking forward to sharing his music and knowledge with the local saxophone community.

 

Shahrizal holds a Master of Music degree in performance from Northwestern University, USA, where he studied with Professor Taimur Sullivan. Prior to this, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from UCSI University. He has also benefitted from masterclasses by the likes of Steven Banks, Arno Bornkamp, and Jean-Yves Fourmeau.
