Driven by our unwavering commitment to fostering the growth of Malaysian composers, we are delighted to announce the return of our initiative, now rebranded as the Emerging Composers Initiative. This dynamic programme will once again provide a platform for emerging talents, offering a series of online workshops, one-on-one mentoring sessions with seasoned professionals and exclusive networking opportunities to further participants' careers.

Open to composers and/or musicians living, studying or working in Malaysia, regardless of age, this initiative is a beacon of openness and opportunity. It serves as a springboard for emerging composers, connecting them with experienced mentors and peers from across the country. 

Four exceptional Malaysian composers will be selected to embark on a transformative three-month journey of mentorship and training. Their compositions will be premiered by the KLPAC Symphonic Band in November 2024.

MENTORS

TIMELINE

A series of online activities will be scheduled for the selected composers to experiment with new ideas and receive feedback in a constructive and inquisitive environment.

  • March 2024: Application period
  • April 2024: Announcement of outcome
  • May - June 2024: 4 composition seminars (schedule to be announced)
  • July 2024: Individual consultations (date/time to be arranged with the composers)
  • August 2024: Final submissions 
  • November 2024: Performance of compositions (physical presence is not required)

Is there any registration fees?
There is no registration fee for this programme.
I am not sure about my schedule at the moment. Can I still apply?
We encourage you to apply as most sessions are recorded and individual consultations are arranged around your schedule.
Are there any restrictions on the composition process?
Due to the limited rehearsal time prior to the performance, there will be a meeting with the conductor to discuss expectations.
How many composers will be chosen?
Only 4 composers will be selected and all compositions will be performed.
Is there an age limit for the programme?
There are no age restrictions.
Will I be able to attend the rehearsals of my composition?
Yes, you can - we will put you in touch with the appropriate people to arrange this.
