Beyond Brass: Steven Mead with Seri Puteri Winds is a landmark meeting of international artistry and Malaysian youth excellence.

For one evening, Steven Mead, widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost euphonium soloists, takes the stage with Seri Puteri Symphonic Winds, Malaysia’s premier all-girls wind orchestra from Sekolah Seri Puteri. Fresh from achieving Gold with Distinction at the World Music Contest 2026, the award-winning ensemble joins Mead under the direction of Raja Muzafar in a major celebration of musical ambition, discipline and excellence.

The concert places the euphonium in the spotlight: an instrument of remarkable lyricism, agility and power in the hands of a true master. At the heart of the programme is the premiere performance of Philip Sparke’s Omaggio Concerto, a major new work that brings together the brilliance of the solo instrument and the full colour of the symphonic wind orchestra.

Complementing this premiere is a compelling selection of further works that reveal the energy, richness and expressive range of wind music. From dazzling solo passages to the full, cinematic sound of the ensemble, Beyond Brass offers an exhilarating live experience—and a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when exceptional young musicians are given the opportunity to perform alongside a world-class artist.
