Gan Charmaine began singing at the age of seven with the Kuala Lumpur Children's Choir at Young Choral Academy. As a chorister, she has travelled extensively across Europe, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia participating in numerous choral tours, competitions and festivals and was a featured soloist on several occasions. She now sings with the Malaysian Institute of Art Mixed Chorus, the Malaysian Institute of Art Ladies Chorus and has travelled numerous countries with them. Charmaine is also currently singing in a vocal octet, Ottophony, that was formed in the year 2019. With Ottophony, she has performed in Singapore with the Byrd Consort as well as Creatus Chamber Choir in 2018. Ottophony has also done several recordings and has been featured in several performances with the Gaudeamus Youth Choir, VOCE Singapore, and VOCO Singapore. Charmaine made her solo role debut as 'Pitti-Sing' in Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Mikado in the year 2014. In the same year, she was a featured soloist with the MPO in the performance of 'Creepy Crawlies', composed and conducted by Carl Davies. In the year 2017, Charmaine sang as one of the Three Spirits' in MPO's production of 'The Magic Flute' conducted by Guillaume Tourniare. Furthermore, she was also a soloist in the MPO's production, The Bear in 2018. In the same year, Charmaine was also a soloist in the Malaysian Institute of Art's Choral Fiesta, performing a mass by Vivaldi. In the year 2020,
Charmaine was part of the quartet in the performance Phantastic 4 held by BachFest Malaysia.In the year 2023, Charmaine taught in a Vietnam Teacher's Training Camp held in Malaysia.
She also participated in the Vietnam International Choral Competition with Ottophony where they were awarded a Gold 6. She was also part of the Asia Pacific Youth Choir 2023 that was
held in Penang Malaysia. Charmaine's teaching journey started at the age of 13. She started at Young Choral Academy as a training teacher and is currently a part-time vocal and choir teacher at Young Choral Academy. She leads a few children's choirs at primary schools and has experience in choral conducting as well as solo vocal teaching.
